    Understanding Aether:
The Hidden Medium of the Universe

For thousands of years, the concept of aether—sometimes spelled “ether”—has persisted in science, metaphysics, and esoteric teachings. It was once widely accepted as the invisible medium through which light and energy moved, the “substance” between all things. Then, with the rise of modern physics, it was declared obsolete. However, the current vacuum model of the universe fails to address dark matter, dark energy, and quantum fluctuations, relying heavily on the presupposition of virtual particles.

There is a much simpler answer, one that great minds such as Nikola Tesla, C.P. Steinmetz, and James Clerk Maxwell used to create the foundation of all physics and electronics today. The answer is aether.

Before you dismiss the concept of aether, it is important to understand what aether is and isn’t. It is not a physical medium. It is the non-material, all-pervasive substrate to every expression of force, energy, mass, and even spirit. Netism embraces this understanding and the means of transmutation and interconnection. All are one through the aether, or source field.

All matter is defined as stabilized disturbances in the aether. An atom is formed as a stable toroidal unit, measured by its frequency. Walter Russell described each atomic element as a musical note in a cosmic octave, determined by rhythmic waves of compression and expansion within the aether. He saw atoms not as fixed particles, but as patterned motions—vortices of light spiraling into form. Each element arises from a specific pressure condition and curvature within the universal wave field, giving it a unique frequency, motion, and appearance. In this view, matter is a temporary focalization of energy, constantly seeking balance, always in motion—defined by its position within the larger rhythmic cycle of creation.

“All fields are described as perturbations in the aether.” (Ken Wheeler)

Magnetism, electricity, gravity, and light are not things in themselves—they are dynamic effects. According to Ken Wheeler’s interpretation, these effects do not arise in empty space but from disturbances in a foundational substrate: the aether.

The aether is not a particle-based medium. It has no mass or velocity. It is the inert, undifferentiated background—a kind of primordial field from which all motion, light, and form emerge. When something perturbs the aether, such as a rotating toroidal magnet, a “field” emerges. That field is the visible or measurable effect of a localized disturbance, just like ripples across a pond are the effect of a dropped stone.

In Wheeler’s framework, magnetism is the centripetal (inward) acceleration toward stillness—the inertia back to the source—while electricity is a torsional, radiative (outward) effect. These opposing motions create the toroidal structure we see in natural systems.

Consciousness interacts with the aether in a major way. It alone causes collapse of the wave function— where a system existing in multiple potential states (a superposition) becomes a single, defined outcome when observed. But what does that really mean?

From a metaphysical standpoint, the aether is the undifferentiated substrate beneath all existence. It is pure potential—undefinable, neutral, and formless. In its natural state, it contains all possibilities at once. This is what is meant by superposition: the aether is not yet one thing or another. It is the field of every potential configuration, vibration, and outcome.

Consciousness acts as the defining force. When a conscious observer focuses attention, they are not merely witnessing reality—they are shaping it. Consciousness selects a particular configuration from the aether’s infinite spectrum of potentials. This act of selection—whether through focus, intent, emotion, or expectation—causes one thread to stand out, and the rest to recede. That is the collapse of superposition into a defined state.
We are more of energy than we are of matter. The energy centers described within the Netic system conjoin within a nested, toroidal flow, interacting with the aether. Both our conscious minds and subconscious beliefs interact with the source field, literally defining our reality.

In Netism, this affirms that intention is the shaping tool of the universe. The aether is the clay, and consciousness is the sculptor. Reality is not externally influenced or absolute; it is woven from within.
