Scientists continue to debate the origin and purpose of dreams. Are they random firings of the brain, emotional processing, or something far more mysterious?

What they don’t debate is that we need them.
Dreams are essential to our well-being—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

But beyond science, many traditions view dreams as doorways to the subconscious, messages from the field, or even visits to alternate realms.

What do you believe dreams are?
Are they random firings of the brain, working out psychological processes?
Are they excursions through the spiritual realms?
      Can they have deeper meanings?

I’ve read all the science stuff about dreams being brain maintenance, sorting memories, processing stress, dumping junk data, etc. And yeah, sure, some of that probably checks out. But honestly? That doesn’t feel like the whole story.
I’ve had dreams that hit with more emotional clarity than waking life ever could. Like my subconscious staged a full-blown intervention while I was asleep. And sometimes I wake up with this weird sense that I just came back from somewhere, like another version of me handed off a message.
So yeah, I think they can definitely be more than random noise. Maybe dreams are how the deeper parts of us try to reach the surface. Still processing it all, but I’m leaning toward mystery with a purpose.
