Is isolation a path to truth or an escape from responsibility?

The sage lives in isolation high on a mountainside. He says that he does so because society ultimately rejected his truths, and he is seeking peace in retirement.

He urges Laolys that his path is still ahead of him, and he can’t live in retirement as he does. Laolys has to go into the world, apply his wisdom, and try to change it, regardless of its resistance.

What can we say about the sage’s life? Is he contradicting himself? Does he have a right to seek solitude?

Sounds Like The Sage Did What Most Folks Don’t Got The Guts To Do. Walked Away When The World Wouldn’t Listen.
That Ain’t Contradiction. That’s Just Burnout With Wisdom On Top.

totally feel this 🌄💫 i dont think the sage isn’t contradicting himself he’s just at a different soul phase 🌙✨ like, sometimes the most healing thing is to step back n find peace within 🌿 but that doesn’t mean he’s abandoned the world… his energy still ripples out 💜 laolys still has fire to share 🔥 his journey’s about action n bringing light into the chaos 💫 both paths are sacred, just different frequencies 💞🌀
solitude can be medicine 🌲🌌 but so can showing up n radiating love into the world ✨ it’s all about when n where your spirit’s called 💕

I don’t think it’s a contradiction, at least not a shallow one. Maybe it’s more like a paradox that feels true on both sides. The sage did try. He gave what he could, and when the world wasn’t ready, he chose peace. That doesn’t cancel out the value of what he did, or his need for rest.

Maybe that’s the point. Maybe wisdom means knowing when your role has shifted. He sees Laolys with fresh legs, a different moment in his arc. So he says: keep going.

As for solitude… I think everyone has the right to it. Especially those who’ve already walked through fire trying to help others.
