Enough Is Enough: Diminishing Returns And Sufficiency in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 week ago
Ive learned over the last few years about how less can be more… it’s a hard economy out there, and I’m a lot more sane with money in the bank than stuff cluttering my house. It’s a hard mindset to adapt because we’re so trained to want things all the time, but what really matters in life is time… how do we spend it? Spending all my time…[Read more]

The ego is the victor’s worst enemy, let it carry on long enough, and it’ll kill him for you. I agree with everything said here. It’s an important subject, and one that’s easily forgotten when pertaining to the self. No one likes a narcissist, but a narcissist might have a hard time understanding that.

As a collector, its hard to know when enough is enough. It really never is. I collect various little monitios (small statues and hand made items). Once I see one I like, I usually dont buy it at first. But if i keep coming back to it or can’t get it off my head, ill go buy it. I need more shelves just to display the most recent ones I got at a…[Read more]

Modern markets are engines that convert attention into appetite. The message arrives a thousand ways each day. You could be happier with one more feature, one more upgrade, one more step up the ladder. Desire becomes a moving target, always just beyond reach. The truth is simpler. Early gains matter. Later gains often add weight. A tool that once…[Read more]

Favor and disgrace as twin snares for the heart in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 week, 1 day ago
The Tao Te Ching warns of becoming concerned with other people’s opinions, stating that getting favor often leads to complications of ego, obsession with popularity, followed by the need to perform or adjust the image to maintain favor. It is a trap that keeps one off the spiritual path, obsessed with material pursuits and endeavors that give no…[Read more]

Can you help society if society doesn’t want help? in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month ago
I dont think you have to save it but you also cant go hide out either. Like, do something, try, but the results arent up to you. Doing nothing isnt good for anyone, but you have to pick your battles. Practice balance like try to reach the people who need to hear it but maybe not everyone.

The Trolley Problem: Minimizing Harm in a Web of Consequence in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month ago
I have such a hard time with this like, AGH! I want to save everyone lol but that’s not how the real world works! Its a reminder that minimizing harm doesnt always mean eliminating it because that might be impossible. Like, I’m a vegan, but palm oil causes problems to the enviroment and its a substitute in vegan products… then I’m checking the…[Read more]

So I’ve like vaguely heard of this before but you put up lots of different angles I never thought of. Like I was all for saving the 5 at first but then it got harder and harder to favor saving more people. You can’t sacrifice people like that. Even then though… there’s times when you have to, like you said with 9/11. Just goes to show that you…[Read more]

The Illusion of Success in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month, 1 week ago
I used to be all about financial success, good job, nice car, nice house, and so on. I got a lot of those things but also a ton of stress and a heart condition. I’ve since backed off a lot of projects and I’m happier for it. I don’t think killing yourself by drowning yourself in work should be considered success, but lots of people think that way.

You presented this with a lot of layers which I appreciate. It’s not a simple answer for any equation. There all damned if you do, damned if you don’t. This reflect how life really is. I don’t know if I could pull the lever, I don’t think I could push the fat man, but I wouldn’t want 5 deaths on my conscious either.

The classic thought experiment goes as follows: A trolley is racing toward five people tied to a track. You can pull a lever to divert it, but doing so will redirect it onto a different track, where one person stands. Do you intervene, sacrificing one to save five? Or do you refuse to act, allowing five to die?
This dilemma reveals the deeper…[Read more]

Do we shape our thoughts, or do our thoughts shape us? in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month, 1 week ago
Totally agree with this… it’s wild how many thoughts just run in the background like open tabs, and most of them aren’t even ours. When I finally started noticing my own thought patterns, I was kind of horrified? Like how many of them were just looping tension or preparing for something bad that wasn’t even real. Now, when I catch myself spirali…[Read more]

Would you still chase your dream if it would cost you everything? in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month, 1 week ago
There was a time I left a steady job to pursue energy work and spiritual study more seriously. Friends thought I’d lost it. Family didn’t say much, but the silence said enough. I wasn’t trying to “become” anything. That decision cost me some relationships. I stopped shaping who I was to fit in and slowly, I found others who resonated. Sometimes…[Read more]

Can Altruistic Acts Be Advertised? in the forum Netist Philosophy 1 month, 1 week ago
I’ve felt both sides. There’ve been moments where I shared something kind I did, hoping it might inspire someone… but then later I wondered, was I really doing it for them, or was I hoping someone would see me a certain way? But I also think we can share without spoiling it… if the energy behind it is clean.

i think about this a lot actually, especially in a world where everything is posted. sometimes i’ll witness someone sharing their kindness online and it feels pure, like a ripple of light moving outward. other times… it feels like a flex wrapped in virtue 🙃
for me personally, i try to keep most of my giving private. not because i’m better, but b…[Read more] - Load More
