First proposed in the 1970s by scientist James Lovelock (with microbiologist Lynn Margulis), the Gaia Hypothesis suggests that Earth functions as a self-regulating, living system. The atmosphere, oceans, soil, and all life forms are not separate parts, but interconnected organs of one planetary body. This system adjusts itself to maintain conditions favorable to life, like a body regulating its own temperature or chemistry.

In Netism, this view is foundational. We recognize Gaia as a sentient field-being, not only physical but energetic. Her weather patterns, geological flows, magnetic lines, and ecosystems are expressions of conscious coordination. The Earth’s body has centers, currents, and memory fields, and humans are within it.

Every mountain, stream, fungus, and insect is a thread in her network with a role to play. Just like a single cell might seem insignificant on its own, each species or landscape helps the whole system breathe, adapt, and evolve.

When we disrupt one part of this system by deforesting a jungle, polluting an ocean, or collapsing biodiversity, we don’t just damage an ecosystem. We weaken the intelligence of Gaia herself. Healing must go beyond cleanup. It requires reconnection.
